Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Telegraph reported that Eric Dier is set to be handed a contract extension, having been given a more prominent role in the first-team since Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
The England international – who struggled for game time under Mauricio Pochettino after making just three Premier League appearances before Mourinho’s appointment on the 20th November – has started all but one of Spurs’ fixtures under the Portuguese boss.
25-year-old Dier has one full season left on his current terms with the north London outfit, and would be expected to pick up £75k-a-week if placed on a fresh deal.
The former Sporting Lisbon man was substituted at half-time against Chelsea on Sunday, while he was also withdrawn just 29 minutes into Tottenham’s 4-2 comeback win over Olympiakos in the Champions League at the end of November – a move that Mourinho felt compelled to apologise to Dier for.

Despite that, he looks set to be given a contract extension – news that these Tottenham fans on Twitter don’t seem to be too happy with.
This particularly unhappy supporter said that the north London club is “literally a laughing stock” and that this news “says it all” about how Spurs are run – they also used the word “sickening” to describe the update on Dier.
Elsewhere, this fan said that Dier hasn’t earned it yet, and that the England international has been average this season while stating that the player is a back-up defensive-midfielder or centre-back “at most” right now.
‘David Shapira” seems to think that handing Dier a contract extension would be the “biggest mistake of Mourinho so far” before mentioning that the Portuguese boss’ midfield combinations are also in close competition for that accolade.
Meanwhile, these two supporters also expressed dissatisfaction at the news. The first fan said that Dier isn’t a top-six calibre player, whereas the second went as far to say that this news has ruined their Christmas!
Lastly, this particular fan kept it short and sweet by stating that Dier isn’t good enough, and should in fact be sold rather than tied down to fresh terms.
In other news, Jose Mourinho was left fuming by one thing in particular following the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea…
