The odds of Manchester City being successful in a late swoop for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez have shortened, which could make the atmosphere at the Emirates tense during the final six days of the window.
The Chile international’s future has been a talking point for the better part of a year due to his failure to agree fresh terms on a new Arsenal deal.
The club’s inability to secure a Champions League spot last season would not have helped matters, but manager Arsene Wenger has been adamant to the press that Sanchez will stay at the club.
The bookies reflect the Frenchman’s claims as Paddy Power have Arsenal as 4/11 favourites to retain the attacker’s services, but City’s chances have been boosted.
Sky Bet have shortened odds on the two-time Premier League champions sealing Sanchez’s signature from 5/2 to 9/4.
The shift comes after The Independent reported that City were preparing to launch a last-ditch attempt to sign the 28-year-old.
It is believed that Pep Guardiola’s side would need to table an offer in excess of £70m to persuade Arsenal into considering a deal.
As it stands, Sanchez is set to run out his contract at the Emirates, meaning that the forward, who scored 24 Premier League goals last season, could leave the club for nothing next summer.
There are a handful of similar situations going on at Arsenal, with a number of first-team players who are yet to tie themselves down to new contracts.
Sanchez has not featured yet in Wenger’s team this season due to injury, but the Chilean is expected to be available for Sunday’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
