Garry Monk’s future at Leeds United is expected to be a big talking point until he either signs a new deal or moves on.
The 38-year-old penned a 12-month contract when he was appointed Leeds boss last summer, and fans are getting nervous as we edge closer to the end of the season.
Monk has transformed the Whites into candidates for Premier League promotion as the club reside fourth in the Championship.
The club are nine points adrift of the top two, so automatic promotion is unlikely, but they have a strong chance of returning to the top flight via the playoffs.
Recently, the Daily Mail reported that the Leeds’ hierarchy are relaxed about the situation due to having the option to extend Monk’s deal by a further year.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash against Queens Park Rangers, Monk was asked for a development about his future, but the former Swansea City boss remained tight-lipped.
The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes Monk as saying:
“I’m not going to talk about that situation, I don’t need to. I think it’s selfish if I talk about myself. Right now is these players, this football club and them trying to win games, that’s the only bit.
“You guys, I will tell you the first if there’s any news on that side of it but that will obviously be when I have sat down and spoke to the club. For me, it’s selfish of me to think about myself. It’s important that I think about my players and my staff and this club.”
