Premier League legend Cesc Fabregas has discussed the future of the young Como winger Assane Diao, amid rumoured interest from Manchester United.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Como's home fixture against Torino on Sunday evening, the Serie A manager — who took charge of the club permanently in August 2024 and has solidified their top-flight status this season — noted the interest Diao has been receiving across Europe after a highly promising start to his career.

After signing from Real Betis last summer, Diao has impressed in his first season in Italy, registering seven goal contributions from 13 appearances. The 19-year-old's form led to him receiving his first senior international call-up for Senegal in March, after he decided to switch his allegiance from his native country Spain.
WHAT FABREGAS SAID
Fabregas said: "There is no mentality of speculating and selling, they come here to grow and improve the team. Then obviously, Manchester [United] can come and ask for Diao by offering €40m, but it is not a given that he will leave. The objective is to create a path, with players who are functional to the characteristics, working with them. Obviously the value increases, but the important thing is that they are the right players for us.”

Fabregas' comments come amid intense speculation about the teenager's future, with Manchester United mentioned specifically by the Spaniard following reports that Amorim's club is interested in Diao. The pull of the Red Devils will be hard to resist; however, Como are clearly willing to put up a fight, so securing the youngster's services won't be easy for the Premier League outfit.
