The incident could do little to sour the mood around the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. Wrexham shot back up into an automatic promotion sport after Jay Rodriguez scored his first goal for the club. The veteran striker's poor penalty was initially saved by Corey Addai, but the ex-Burnley man recovered to scuff the rebound between the onrushing keeper's legs. The penalty was awarded after McClean's header across goal struck defender Ibby Touray's arm.
WHAT DAVE CHALLINOR SAID
Stockport manager Dave Challinor heavily criticised the decision. He said: "I am not going to get myself into trouble by saying what I truly believe.
"It’s not cost us three points because we weren’t good enough to score, but it has cost us point because it was a really, really poor decision."
DID YOU KNOW?
Saturday's latest 1-0 win was Wrexham's 12th victory by that scoreline in the 2024/25 season. Rodriguez's first goal for the Red Dragons came in his tenth appearance for the club.
