Roberto Mancini is hoping to complete the signings of Inter Milan defender Maicon and Benfica’s Javi Garcia before the transfer deadline, reports the BBC.
Brazilian full back Maicon is thought to be available for a fee in the region of £5 million, and would be viewed as cover for Argentinian Pablo Zabaletta.
Benfica’s Garcia, meanwhile, is valued at around £24 million and is viewed as an alternative to Danielle De Rossi, who Mancini has been chasing all summer without success.
It has been a frustrating transfer window so far for Manchester City, having missed out on Robin Van Persie who opted for a move to bitter rivals Manchester United, and Eden Hazard, who chose to ply his trade at Stamford Bridge.
Mancini was also keen on signing Javi Martinez, who has just completed a £30 million plus transfer from Athletic Bilbao to Bayern Munich.
Fiorentina defender Matija Nastasic is expected to become Mancini’s second summer signing for a fee of £12 million. The Serbian teenager will become only Mancini’s second summer arrival following the £12 million capture of Jack Rodwell, while defender Stefan Savic is expected to move in the opposite direction.
Mancini is also hoping to tie up a £6.2 million move for Swansea City winger Scott Sinclair, while tough-tackling midfielder Nigel De Jong has been linked with a switch to AC Milan.
