According to Sky Sports, Southampton are in talks to sign Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto as new Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino looks to strengthen his attacking options.
The south coast outfit have already sold Jay Rodrigurez to West Bromwich Albion this summer and having scored just 17 home league goals last season, and 41 in 38 top flight matches across the campaign, their interest in Vietto suggests that they are stepping up their search for a new forward.
The 23-year-old joined Atletico from La Liga rivals Villarreal in 2015 after scoring 20 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions the previous season, but he struggled to make an impression under Diego Simeone as was loaned out to another Spanish team in Sevilla last term.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, and they were divided with their opinions.
While some would love to have Vietto at the club and feel that he fits the mould perfectly of a typical Saints signing, others are struggling to work out what there is to get excited about and wouldn’t want to sign him on loan.
