Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they disagree with Jurgen Klopp’s criticism of Atletico Madrid’s style of play.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss took aim at the way in which Diego Simeone’s sets his side up, stating that the Spanish outfit have a number of world-class players and that, with their quality, they could play “proper football” according to the German.
Now, quite what “proper football” is remains to be seen – Simeone oversaw wins in both legs of the last 16 tie with his style of play, so he is clearly getting the best out of his squad and knows how to win games with what he has at his disposal.
Klopp’s comments reek of football snobbery, and even his own supporters have taken to Twitter to disagree with what he said about Atletico Madrid.
His Liverpool side crashed out of the Champions League after a heroic display from Jan Oblak, who made nine saves at Anfield before Marcos Llorente scored twice and Alvaro Morata netted once in extra-time.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about Klopp’s comments…
To kick off the reaction, one fan called the comments stupid.
Klopp really hasn’t covered himself in glory with his review of Simeone’s playing style, showcasing himself to be a sore loser with little admiration for the various different ways in which sides can go about their business, even at the top level.
If Atletico played an open game, it is likely that they would’ve been torn apart by the pace of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah – does Klopp just want teams to play the way he wants them too so it suits him?
Elsewhere, more fans scolded their own boss’ comments.
It is bad enough to crash out of a competition that you won last season at the last 16 stage, but Klopp could’ve left in more admirable fashion than the bitter, childish way in which he departed the Champions League.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
He must learn to appreciate that not everyone has to play eye-catching, tika-taka football – as these Liverpool supporters above seem to appreciate more than their own club’s manager.
In other news, James Pearce has sent a concerning five-word message in terms of Naby Keita’s situation at Anfield…
